Beginning Playwriting
The Beginning Playwriting Workshop is for those who have never written a play and wish to find personal and creative expression in this genre. The workshop will deal with the basic rudiments of playwriting and feature exercises in structure, scenes and dialogue. The ultimate objective by the end of the ten-weeks will be to write a ten to fifteen-minute play which will be showcased on a selected evening with professional actors for friends and the general public. In the process of completing the ten-to-fifteen-minute play, students will write 2–3 page scenes with temporary resolutions. They will develop plot outlines, briefly examine and define character growth during the course of a play, write monologues which reveal the interior thinking of their characters, touch on the bone structure of characters --- the three factors by which characters function: the psychological, emotional and physical.
